ROAD NETWORK ANALYSIS OF EMERGENCY SERVICES IN LOKOJA METROPOLIS, KOGI STATE, NIGERIA
The recent growth of population densities and economic expansion has created a greater concentration of residential and commercial risks within the urban areas, which result in frequent emergency and disaster situations that have led to the loss of lives and valuable properties. Assessing these effects of road network on emergency services using GIS technique is necessary for effective and efficient emergency management. The study mapped and analysed the accessibility of ambulance services, fire services, and hospitals in Lokoja metropolis using geographic information (GIS). The findings provide valuable insights into the accessibility of these emergency services to residents of various settlements. These findings can be used to improve the planning and delivery of emergency services in Lokoja metropolis. It is recommended that additional ambulance service stations be established in underserved areas such as Zangon-daji, Ganaja, and Krocha to improve response times and coverage. Implement real-time ambulance tracking systems to optimise dispatch and resource allocation. Consider establishing additional fire service stations in areas beyond the 10-minute service area, such as Zangon-daji and Krocha, to enhance response capabilities. Conduct public awareness campaigns to educate residents on fire safety measures and emergency procedures. Explore the establishment of satellite clinics or community health centres in areas beyond the 10-minute service area, such as Nataco, Ganaja, and Krocha, to improve access to primary healthcare services. Collaborate with transportation providers to improve connectivity and access to existing hospitals for residents in underserved areas.
