PERFORMANCE EVALUATION AND IMPACT ANALYSIS OF INTERMODAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM IN NIGERIA
Intermodal transportation system is the backbone of industrial revolution in the world today. Almost 100% of produce are not consumed at the point of production, even when sold, they must be transported to the point of need. Economy of scale which is the mathematics of growing the gross domestic product (GDP) of a Nation, depend solely on intermodalism. The study aim at evaluating the performance and impact of intermodal transport system in sustaining the transportation network in Nigeria. This study was carried out by assessing and evaluating the performance of the available modes of transportation in Nigeria with a view for possible intermodal connection. Desktop method was used to collect data. Performance condition models were used to analyse data while descriptive statistical tool like the time series graph were used to present findings.. The results from various performance goals considered showed that, all available transportation modes in Nigeria need to be upgraded for a viable and sustainable intermodal system to function in Nigeria. The infrastructural condition of all modes of transportation in Nigeria needs urgent upgrading, private sector performance in transportation system development need to be inaugurated and periodic maintenance culture need to be inculcated.
