SENSITIVITY ANALYSIS OF A PRODUCTION RATE OPTIMIZATION MODEL USING BLOW FILM MOULDING MACHINE

This study analyses the impact of concentration on the production of a particular product on the total profit (contribution to profit) of Borno Plastic Industry (BOPLAS); a plastic industry in Maiduguri, North eastern Nigeria. This is based on a research carried out to study the allocation problem of the company. Simplex method of linear programming was employed to formulate mathematical model which were solved using Matlab software. Sensitivity analysis using shadow price was used to identify how much variations in the input value for a given variable will impact the results of the developed model. The coefficient of x3, polyvinyl chloride (PVC pipe) and the constraint, right hand side of the inequality of the developed model, were increased by 10%. The results show that, the objective values were also increased from 70.5146 to 6.3126 and 84.4986 respectively. The sensitivity analyses revealed that, PVC and wash hand bowls have contributed to the net benefit (profit) of the company by N3, 587, 520 and N634, 843.1 respectively. It is recommended that the company should emphasise on the practice of operational research techniques for optimum production.
